| Bio: | Hwaet, my friends: Conrad here. In a general sense, who am I? Physically: I am about 6'4", 280, bald, reasonably fit, inked, usually wear darker clothing. Professionally I am an attorney. Romantically I end up being involved in long term, structured, power exchange relationships and am in one right now with Melissa. She and Abby, her toddler that we mutually raise, live 24/7 with me. Socially I end up spending time with leather (I teach and judge at various leather events during the year around the US and Canada), the SCA and at the gym. Most of my friends come from these three areas, though I have a few odds and ends from law enforcement, martial arts or even more oddball stuff. I am starting out this Live Journal account as a way to manage my current Connie_Updates list. If you do not know who "Conrad" might be, well, welcome, I suppose. I have a "vanilla" and sanitized version of this journal for law community/law enforcement people, SCA and some bio family; that is where I place new friends if I am unsure where to fit them. However, I am pretty much an open book. I do not have professional or social concerns with folks knowing and do this to be kind to the sensibilities of some folks I care about who do not wish to be fully "in the loop." If you want me to let you access the full version, just let me know. A quote from a movie comes to mind: "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. . . . All those ... moments will be lost in time, like tears...in rain." [Last words of Roy Batty in Blade Runner]. Ok, melodramatic, but I find it evocative of what my motives are, partly, for this journal. There are some things going on in my life right now which are pretty serious and it is likely I will want to remember them, in detail, in the years to come. Thus, to ensure that my memories of this time are not lost like tears in the rain, I will be sharing here. A question I an often asked is what "Breakring" means. It comes from a kenning found in several old Germanic and Norse literary sources, like the Volsung Saga and Beowulf. "Beaga bryttan," (Breaker of Rings) is a metaphorical compound word or phrase. It refers to the particular sort of hero king who rubbed shoulders with his warriors in hall and on the field and apparently comes from the habit among such chieftans of breaking off sections of gold arm-rings to bestow as a sign of favour, thus "ring breaker," "breaker of rings" or "breakring."
